San Diego Safari Snyder Snynopsis

Just to start this off Sedona is one of the best places to ride. Ever.

I don’t know why, after living in Durango for 6 years, I had not been there until 2010. I think I may have to move there for the winter next year, maybe rent an R.V, or set up a squatter’s camp or something because that place is expensive. Sedona was only the first stop of this quick race weekend trip from Durango to Phoenix then from Phoenix to San Diego. I rode again in Phoenix but it was pretty much the same as last time so no need to talk about that.

The drive from Phoenix to San Diego is an interesting one, you see a lot of funny stuff on the side of the road out there in the desert…such as these statues I found of Mary, a Donkey and a statue of Joseph that looks very familiar.

The first race of the year is always the hardest for 2 reasons.
#1 is remembering what you need to pack for the race and #2 because it is always my first hard effort of the year. This year didn’t disappoint. This year I forgot to renew my UCI license pack extra bottles, tube, co2, and any clothes that would protect me from weather below 60 degrees or rain. So when I arrived to San Diego it was 55 and raining biblical proportions needless to say I didn’t get a pre-ride in. When all said and done I got everything I needed together and made it to the start line.

The Sagebrush Safari is a well attended race considering it is the middle of no where and the fact that it is all fire road. I don’t want to take anything away from the race because it pulls in a lot of mtbers and it is an mtb race but there isn’t one real section of single track on that course. I know a lot of people like that stuff but it’s not for me that’s all I am gonna say about that I don’t want to offend anyone or get hate mail by any Cali Bra’hs.

The race itself wasn’t anyting too interesting, I rode really hard and got pretty waxed hmmmmmm. Those Cali dudes can ride really hard and fast in Feb. I think what I learned from the race is that I need to actually start training and not skiing so much or just move to SoCal so I can put in some hours and kick ass in February or just do what I am doing and be fast for stuff that counts. I truely do love Cali and all my friends there I am just a bit jealous.

Mug shot from post race, enjoying my recovery drink and looking really determined to exact my revenge.

I’m outta here, we’re hitting up Sedona again on the drive back to D-town just before I turn around to drive to St. George on Thursday.

Talk to you guys then,

-Adam
